I know this post is over a here but just I'd share my thoughts :) The theory that you just proposed of focusing on long tails in order to rank primary and secondary keywords is a sound one. In fact, I know Grizzly suggests to start off with a super keyword like "how to make money online for beginners". He's mentioned numerous times that the more long tails you rank for, it starts to increase your rankings for the secondary and primary keywords. I'm still in the process of building micro niched adsense sites so I'm learning as much SEO as I can. Anyways, it's been well over a year since you posted this.
