Hello Leo - first time reader of your blog. I really enjoyed that post. Some of it I knew - but you laid it out in a very logical and easy to read manner.

Off to read some of your other posts now.

Good luck with your new house.

Hey Ron, thanks for dropping in. Yeah, I don't necessarily agree with Court's page rank system but it does work and I know why he has done it this way- To dumb keyword research down to the point where absolute beginners can "get" it. And like I said, in most cases it does work. After all, page rank is nothing more than link popularity and if you can find sites that are less than PR4 with very few anchored links with the keyword, then you should be able to pass them quickly with a little work (it is a bit more involved than that but it usually works).

As far as trustrank is concerned, squidoo still has a little trustrank (I don't use them though) and my hubs are ranking pretty well. As far as parasitic hosts are concerned, EZA ranks high straight out of the box and can hold fairly well if you throw a few links at the article. Currently I use wetpaint, weebly, hubpages, EZA, and blogspot blogs from the "free" perspective, although this can change fairly quickly as Google can change their mind in the blink of an eye.

It is important to monitor your pages to see what is sticking and what isn't. In some cases, you may be getting traffic from tag pages that actually have PR. If that is the case, you can dominate the tag page by simply creating a ton of pages and saturating the niche. In other cases, you may find a long tail that is accidentally getting traffic that you may want to create an exclusive page for the long tail....ya feeling me?

The most important thing is to go for it and learn from your mistakes....no one can really tell you what works and what doesn't work...they can only tell you what works for them...and as far as making money with adsense is concerned (or make money online for that matter), just because something works for someone else isn't indicative of your success.

Court's system is a good system and I think that the most positive thing I can say about it is that it instills good work ethic in a make money niche that wants to believe that they can make money doing nothing.

hella Leo! well, this is the first time i drop a comment in ur blog. hope i'm welcomed. LOL.. like u said, CPM is what we should give weight when analyzing performance. this is the first time i know someone that nailed it down to everyone, unlike other IMs. btw, my technique of keyword research is so different from Court (i'm not his student but from his free eBook, i know his main perspective is around PR which i doesn't agree at all).

i'm a noob with 6 months old xperience, but i don't think that i'm really a noob in adsense bcz i already made a good money that can cover more than my life and university expenses (i use all free resources). so, i would like to jump to affiliate world. with the keyword research technique that i developed myself, i found around 5 niches with little to zero competition (again, it's from my own perspective). i would like to test my skill with free resources first before spending money without too much knowledge. the main point here, what free resources that considered the best for landing page. i'm thinking of using squidoo but their trustrank suck.. it's hell lot of work to rank them. funneling the traffic using ezine.. well good to conquer 1 page with many of my properties. hubpages.. hell, big G doesn't love them anymore and users will be distracted with many links on the right sidebar. blogger.. maybe but the template.. hmm..

so, what's ur opinion? since u'r already familiar with this field after involved in 10 years, maybe u can give me some light and direction.

best regard

p/s: what's your opinion about Court technique? you're already a TKA member, right? maybe you have better opinion than mine.

Good comment, blogercise....you don't necessarily need high volume but what you say pretty much sums up what I am saying....your cpm is probably through the roof, right (It has to be to make any kind of money realistically with low search volume)?

I refute the idea that you need high volume to make money from adsense. I have sites that convert 20-30%. The key is getting the other part right, getting the right traffic.

Build a site around the right terms and you will get the right people looking for specific answers who are very receptive to ads. Like most of these "keyword sniping" techniques that are often talked about it all comes down to understanding the behaviour of people who are looking for something. Get these people to your site and stick ads infront of them and they will click!

With a nice suite of highly targeted niche sites $100 a day is entirely possible without huge volumes. At least in my experience! But similarly I have some fun sites that attract 10,000 or so hits a day and bring in almost no clicks because the people who come past just aren't looking to buy something... but then website building isn't always just about money :)

Just finished painting and in a couple days, I will be laying floors. Thanks for the tip about the knee pads....I think you may be saving me a bit of knee pain, lol.

As far as kids go, I know what you mean. As a WAH dad with a 22 month old (who is winging potty training), I know all about trying to fit everything in with limited time. Thanks for stopping by.

Leo: PLEASE purchase some kickass knee pads or you will be in so much pain after doing the floors. And pace yourself.

As for adsense, because I'm mommy first and webpreneur second, my adsense earnings suck like a black hole. I found a juicy, but short term niche, and had a few $8 days, but the topic was timely and it ended. I would be happy with $1 a day right now.

I'm crossing my fingers that slow and steady can win the race. Or that tantruming toddlers are good luck charms and an essential piece of the niche blogging business model. Either way.

The only time I worry about CTR is if it is unusually low. Typically what this means is that the content isn't targeted enough to the keyword I am going for and the people landing on the page aren't interested in it because of this. Then again, an low CTR would also mean a low CPM.....

The good news is that you don't need to figure out CTR since Google pretty much hands it to you (I don't remember where I was going with that statement to be real honest, lol...maybe a tangent..)

Loved this one. It should be required reading for us noobs. I have been lamenting my earnings some - but now I can see that with a CPM of 40.00 +, I have some great potential. There is one part I don't get:

"So, your have 100 hubs in our mock scenario. You are making $3 a day currently with all your hubs combined. Because you know your CPM is $8.00 and your CTR is 3.5%, a smart marketer can figure his daily traffic at around 300-400 unique views a day after hubpages takes their cut."

OK - I can just use earnings and CPM to calculate that I am getting 375 views per day: 3/8 * 1000= 375
Where does CTR come into the equation?
